US Cover UK Cover
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
Both these covers have their pros and cons. The UK covers have a crisp white background with the bold dark color of the animals. Each book in the series has a different colored font for the title, red for Nevernight, blue for Godsgrave, yellow for Darkdawn. I love it, once you start reading the series you recognize where and why each animal is represented on the cover. The US covers feature Mia our main character. I am not the biggest fan of books with people on the cover. Sometimes I just like to picture certain characters in my way. But the styling of Mia with her dark wings and the font of the title, this one grows on you.
The winner is….....Nevernight UK!

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
Now this one was a hard choice! I like them both so much. The UK cover has that crisp white with pops of color that just draws my attention right in. But the US cover has that very interesting picture on it. Draws me in on curiosity alone. I honestly think it comes down to which looks better as a paperback. And I think the UK cover makes a stunning paperback and the US would make a striking hardcover.

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson has two very strikingly different covers in the US and the UK. The decision for this one comes down to the feeling you have for this series. Do you like the feel of the US cover with its classic adult fantasy picture; with the characters pictured fighting some sort of battle? Or do you prefer a little cleaner sharp look? The UK cover once again has a striking white background with bold images. I am not a mass market paperback fan, and Mistborn US reminds me exactly of that.

Queen of the Tearling- Erika Johansen
Now we are mixing things up! The UK cover of Queen of the Tearling was a bold choice on the publisher’s part, a bright eye-catching red color with white font. While I don’t mind a bold bright color was that really the best option for a political fantasy? I am obsessed with the US cover for this book (even though it does have deckled edges eye roll). The gold foiled edging that matches the font style with the dark background mixed with the look of a castle burning. Plays right into all the esthetic I want in my fantasy book coves.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
These two sets of covers are completely different in a drastic way, I see how they play into one another with the gold and blue coloring but that’s about it. The US cover is by far my least favorite we have talked about today. That yellow gold color mixed with the babyish dark blue does not look good, even the font does nothing for me. Now the UK cover is on another level in and of itself. It is BEAUTIFUL! The intricate picture of the gold moth and the elegant font style, this would definitely be the one I want on my bookshelves.
The winner is…....Strange the dreamer UK (obviously hahaha)
Well, that is my list of comparing UK and US book covers. This is only a small example of what is out there. If you have any suggestions for other ones you would like to see, leave me a comment. Next round lets look at few not so popular book titles!
